The prayers of Paul seem to have a central theme which we may have not really realized. His prayers were primarily for the saints, that they would come to the full realization of their potential in God.
"...do not cease to pray for you ... that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will and spiritual understanding ... being fruitful and increasing in the knowledge God strengthened with all might..."
(Colossians 1:9, 10, 11).
"Pray always for you, that our God would ... fulfill all the good
pleasure of his goodness, and the work of faith with power..."
(II Thessalonians 1: 11).
"...in every prayer of mine for you all making requests ... that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it..." (Philippians 1:4-6).
"...I have remembrance of thee in my prayers ... stir up the gift of God, which is in thee..."(2 Timothy 1:3-6).
"...praying exceedingly that we ... might perfect that which is lacking in your faith..." (I Thessalonians 3: 10).
"...make mention of you always in my prayers ... that I may impart some spiritual gift..." (Romans 1:9-11).
"...making mention of you in my prayers ... that God ... may give … you ... wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him ... that ye may know .. exceeding greatness of his power..." (Ephesians 1: 16-20) that he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory .. may be able to comprehend...and to know .. according to the power that worketh in
us" (Ephesians 3:14-20).
This scriptural study has had a profound impact on my praying.
There is no lack of power, plan or provision available to us through God. "...we have received ... the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God" (I Corinthians 2:12).
Paul repeatedly prayed for us to have understanding and knowledge, and also, for us to have enlightened eyes, increased faith, and spiritual gifts. He prayed that God's gift would be activated in us and that we would have a realization of His power. All these things are freely given to us, but are ineffective unless we realize them and release them.
In my kitchen I have many power appliances. One of these is an electric knife. If I did not realize the capability of this tool, I would use it as just a simple knife, but what a difference it makes knowing and understanding and using it in its full power. "And what is the exceeding greatness of His power to usward who believe, according to the working of His mighty power" (Ephesians 1: 19).
Apostolic praying is high level praying. It is the releasing of eternal power so superior to earthly needs that exceedingly great things are accomplished. Pray the Apostolic way. -Thetus Tenney

Apostolic Attitude
I'm a part of the fellowship of the unashamed.
I have Holy Ghost power. The dye has been cast, I have stepped over the line. The decision has been made--I'm a disciple of HIS.
I won't look back, let up, slow down, back away, or be still. My past is redeemed, my present makes sense, my future is secure.
I'm finished with low living, sight walking, small planning, smooth knees, colorless dreams, tamed vision, chintzy giving, and dwarfed goals. I no longer need prosperity, position, promotion or popularity. I don't have to be right, first, tops, recognized, praised, regarded, or rewarded.
I now live by present tense, by faith, walk by patience,
lift by prayer, and labor by power. My face is set, my gait is fast, my goal is Heaven. My road is narrow, my way is rough, my companions few, my Guide reliable, my mission clear.
I cannot be bought, compromised, detoured, lured away, turned back, deluded, deceived, or delayed. I will not flinch in the face of sacrifice, hesitate in the presence of my enemy, negotiate at the table of the adversary, ponder at the pool of popularity, or meander in the maze of mediocrity. I won't give up, let up or shut up until I have stayed up, stored up, prayed up, paid up and preached up for the cause of Christ.
I am a disciple of Jesus Christ. I must go 'til He comes, give 'til I drop, preach 'til all know and work 'til He stops me. And, when He comes for His own, He will not have any problem recognizing me because I will not be discouraged, and I refuse to quit.
Have a blessed day!
